Arting: Work in Progress

So I don't feel compelled to make a video this week (or for a while) because I’d rather paint. I’m working on 5 small sized paintings for my cousin’s Christmas present; something I’ve promised I’d do for her for a while.

The series is a bit cliché (by a bit I mean a lot), with a Paris theme, but we went there together in 2004 and I wanted to work with our memories together. I LOVE FRANCE.

As you can see I’m pretty much blank on my approach for the second canvas. It’s a work in progress. I have a couple ideas but I’ll keep you posted on it when it’s completed.

To be honest with you, I’m not too happy with what I’ve done because I was fighting with the painting technique for a while. They look a bit cartoonish, and I was used to painting more realistically in the past. I’m a bit rusty now though, in all drawing abilities, and I NEED to work on that. So if giving up videos for a while means doing so. Then so be it. I get bored very easily though, so expect me back sooner than later. I just want to put my focus elsewhere at this moment. For now, painting will be at the forefront of my creative endeavours. It’s my first step on regaining bits of my former self.

Be well everyone.

Jas your paintings look awesome, they really do. I'm not sure what media you used but it kind of looks like water-color-ish from my side of the computer...

The cartoon-ish look makes them look cute. Almost kind of like they're "childlike" memories... the precious kind you can never fully remember, except maybe the outlines of... I think that makes sense.

What were your ideas for your blank canvas?

I think it's important to change the artistic medium once in a while. Video, painting, writing, photography... you will get a lot of creativity for your other areas when working on one of those.

I like the paintings... probably because I always wanted to paint (and did) but sucked :D

Jas...I'm glad that we have painting in common.

I think your images are very nice. I like that they're not in the trend of being ironically cute and cartoony, like so many things on the web (You know, like Little Gamers, Perry Bible Fellowship, ++) but actually just cute. I really like the Eiffel tower and the café, they're framed really well.

We share that envy of the realistic style. I badly want to be able to paint in gradients, etc, but I doubt I'd be able to. There's only one way to find out, however, and that's starting to paint. This has inspired me, because you struggle with the same things I do. When I saw the first ever acrylics Gabe at Penny Arcade made, I never wanted to paint again, because he's just naturally amazing. However, now I want to paint again.

Thank you!

they're really good... i know you don't like that they're illustrative but i sure do!! keep it up and maybe try to mix the illustration with something more rendered, might be interesting... think of a realistic face on a cartoon boady in a cartoon scene... might be freaky looking but cool.
